Racing for the Merv Anderson Sprint Series was conducted yesterday with 7 Flying Fifteen’s in the fleet using the series as a warm up for the upcoming Flying Fifteen Queensland State Championships next weekend.
10 windward/leeward races were conducted over a short course with a downwind finish. Each race lasted for about 6 minutes and getting a good start was critical over such a short course.
After 10 races, the final result came down to a countback with Ashley Smith and Kim Thumpkin winning on Sake, and Greg Williamson and Chris Howell on SNAffU placing 2nd. Full race results can be found here
This coming weekend 21 and 22 October, the club will be hosting the Flying Fifteen State Championship and we will be expecting 12-14 boats and crews from Tin Can Bay, Darwin, NSW and Victoria to join in a great weekend of competitiveness and comradery.
