King of Bramble Bay and Merv Anderson Sprints

Last race weekend the club held the King of Bramble Bay Regatta, a 2 day event taking in all of Bramble Bay.
Race 1 was a marathon starting and finishing at the Shorncliffe Pier held in a firm 12-15k NNE’ly. After the start, boats sailed the long windward to Otter Rock on the southern shore of Woody Point. As usual, everyone was worried about over standing the mark which is always hard to find. Next was a broad reach to Nudgee Beach. The tracks of the lead boats were less of a straight line than you would expect! Then a sail back to the Fisheries mark and a tight 2-sail reach to the finish.
On day 2 there were 2 windward/leeward races held around set marks in light conditions.
Congratulations to Graham and Steven in Gripple Nipper for winning the event this year, just edging out Neil and Graeme in Ffunnily Enuff.
This weekend the club are running the Merv Anderson Sprint Series. This is a 1 day series of short races that provides a focus on getting good starts, fleet management and tight racing. First warning signal is scheduled for 11:30.
