SYC conducted its first races of the new year and it was great to see new boats in the hardstand and some friends we haven’t seen for some time, returning from cruising and locked down in isolation.
After a week of strong winds, we were greeted with perfect sailing conditions. 6 boats made their way to the start for Club Championship races 3 & 4. 5 x Flying Fifteens and a Status 580.
The breeze was a fairly steady 10-12kt ESE, but on the race course there were patches of 8-10kt breeze, a small swell which didn’t cause much drama upwind, but were handy downwind if you could get on them.
The start line was not favoured to either end and SNAffU managed the starts the best and also won the first race. Ffunnily Enuff found their groove in the second race and were able to contain the fleet for the win. Close racing was had throughout the fleet. Results of the days racing can be found on the Events page.
Next race is the Ted Rice Shield on the 6 February.
